Which is the best (family friendly) beach/island in Thailand to go to in June?
I know it’s rainy season then, so which is the best beach for the season? We’d like our young children to be able to go into the sea.
Ok, so I know which beaches are good, I’m more concerned about which beaches are good in the rainy season – June. I’ve heard Phuket is too rough. I know Ko Samet is a dry island, but are there any others? We’re only having a few days at a beach, the majority of the time will be spent travelling round with our young (1 & 5) kids
Koh Samet -during the rainy season it is one of the driest places in Thailand. In fact, this is probably the best time to visit as you can enjoy the beaches without the crowd.
Koh Samui-June – September generally speaking, between these months, most days will be filled with sun, except for the occasional downpour, which usually doesn’t last long.
Many things to explore on the Island.

Family friendly: I would choose Patong Beach on Phuket. Jomtien is okay but the ocean/beach floor is rocky. The other islands in Thailand provide excellent beaches and several are devoid of many falangs.

Try one of these islands Koh Chang or Koh Samet, both on the eastern coast of Thailand in The Gulf of Thailand.

Koh Samet or Ao Nang, Krabi would be ideal places for a family.
Phuket is overcroed, over priced and over rated.
For hotels go to agoda.com
For flights to Krabi go airasia.com
For information on what to see and do go to tripadvisor.com

Try not to waste all of your holiday only at beaches. See if you can fit in some of northern Thailand too, like Chiang Mai. Beaches are pretty common, you can find beaches in lots of countries, maybe even your own.
Good luck.

Since I live here, I will give you my favorite beaches in the Phuket area as follows:
Kata
Karon
Surin
Nai Harn
Bang Tao
Patong Beach is decent…but can get very busy during any time of the year.
Note: Most of the beaches will have flags up if it is not safe to swim (this doesn’t mean that there will be lifeguards present). You can have some decent riptides around this region, notably during the monsoon season, so be aware of what your kids are doing at all times.
Krabi would also be an excellent choice for a family, largely due to the fact that it is generally less busy than Phuket & it is also very scenic.
Khao Lak, about 1.5 hours north of Phuket, is also very relaxing & doesn’t have the hustle and bustle of Phuket.

In June the South China Sea is drier than the Andaman Sea. So, I would not suggest Phuket.
Also, stay away from sex tourism destinations. Again, Koh Samui is a bad idea, although it is in the South China Sea.
Best bet would be Koh Samet or Koh Chang near the Eastern Seaboard. Koh Samet is more accessible and closer to Bangkok. Lots of Bangkok weekend Thai tourism there, but during the weekdays is very quiet and affordable.
So, Koh Samet would be my first choice. In June, expect the occasional afternoon thunderstorm. But the mornings are gonna be beautiful and sunny. Wear tons of sunscreen.
If you decide to go to Koh Samet, pick any resort on Hat Sai Kaew (Diamond Beach). Most of them are very good and kids’ friendly.
